Peer Support Groups
When someone close to them dies, children often experience many difficult and overwhelming thoughts and feelings. Our Grief Groups for Children and Teens help to create a sense of safety and normalcy, giving young people the chance to meet others their age who are also grieving.

Separate groups are held for elementary, middle school, and teens. The activities are designed to help children express their loss experience, to share feelings and memories of loved ones who have died, and to identify ways of coping and growing through their grief. In addition to group experience sufficient time is given for self directed play, drama, art, and other forms of expression.

A group for parents/guardians is held while the children meet, offering the opportunity to talk about grief-related issues and to support one another.

Groups meet throughout the school year. Families must attend an Orientation session prior to participating in the support groups. We do not charge a fee for groups, but rely on donations from business, foundations and individual donors.

All children must attend one orientation session and register prior to coming to group. "Drop-ins" are not permitted.

How to register:

• A parent or guardian can call The Center (215-744-4025) to talk with a staff person about obtaining services for your child or teen.

• Register for the next scheduled “family orientation.” This one-hour program will introduce you and your child to our services and philosophy.

• Following the family orientation, complete the registration forms. Your child will be included in the next open group night for his/her age.
